Yunnan Silver Needle white tea is made from an unusual tea bush variety, Camelia Taliensis. The tea is mild yet mouth-filling and rich. For lovers of bud-picked white tea, this unusual tea is an elegant and special treat. The aroma is fresh and enticiting and the taste is a heady mix of sweet ripe melon and the Woodsy essence of a forest after spring rain.

Imperial Yunnan Silver Needle (Da Bai) from Tang Te village, Jinggu County, Puer (Simao) Prefecture, Yunnan province, China.

PRODUCTION:

the best productions are from the first flushes, which generally take place between late March to early April. For the production of Silver Needle, only the leaf shoots are plucked. Ideal time and weather for drying tea leaves is a sunny morning when the sun is high enough to have dried any remaining moisture on the buds. This tea has been withered for a short time (light oxidation) and then dried quickly with warm air.

Yunnan Silver Needle white tea contains various functional components, including caffeine, tea polyphenol, tea polysaccharide, theaflavin, theanine, which are beneficial for human health in multiple aspects. For example, tea polypgenol is anti-aging, antioxidants clearing free radical away, raw caffeine is less strong compare to caffeine in caffe, but is diuretic due to its function of restraining the re-absorbing of sodium, chloridion and water; caffeine together with flavanols help to refresh mind and help to loose weight.

PREPARATION:

to fully appreciate the exquisite aroma of this tea, using a clear glass is highly suggested. Warm the glass first with boiling water and then pour 200 ml of water (80C) over around 3 grams of tea. The tea leaves will start to float on top of the glass. After 5 minutes, some leaves will sink down to the bottom of the glass while others remain at the top. All tea leaves will then stand up vertically performing a magical dance An enchanting sight to enjoy before drinking the tea.
